The first week in May, leading up to Mothers’ Day is traditionally celebrated as FAMILY WEEK in Catholic schools.

The theme for Family Week this year was “Celebrating families in all their diversity.” This year’s theme acknowledges the unique identity of each family while respecting the richness of culture that can be shared with others. This identity, shaped over time, draws on the tradition, culture, stories, dreams hopes, challenges and life events unique to each family. Families can share this richness and strengthen the resilience of other families within the community.

Every year Sacred Heart School celebrates family life during Family Week and raises funds to support Centacare so that they may continue their valuable work in the community. This year we celebrated by having Andrew Chinn (Australian religious songwriter and singer) come to our school for the day to do music workshops with each class and perform a concert with the children at 2pm. We invited parishioners, parents and grandparents to come along and be entertained!

What the children thought...

Yesterday when Andrew Chinn came in for the concert my favourite songs were Rainbow and Arky Arky because they were fun and very bright

My favourite part was when I did the Jackson bow in front of the whole school!

We were all laughing as Georgia was doing her graceful butterfly wing! Then Andrew Chinn got Aaron to be the koala bear with his fuzzy wuzzy hair and got Jackson to do the Jackson bow! It was very funny. We had a folding competition and light blue won. Me and Zoe sang Rainbow and These Hands. We had so much FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really liked how I got to go up and dance and sing with Andrew Chinn and Chelsea came with me. My mum came and my sister and Grandma and my Aunty came too.

Yesterday Andrew Chinn came to our school. We were all singing the songs together. We all enjoyed it. My favourite song was In the Beginning.

This is what Andrew Chinn had to say following his visit...

‘On May 6 I climbed the hill to visit Sacred Heart in Croydon. As I pulled up there was a beautiful mist hanging over Melbourne's east along with the
colours of autumn, with the Sacred Heart Statue standing proudly above.

Among the highlights were the fish faces of Sarah and Kaitlin, Sean's Elvis impersonation and the amazing singing of Maddie and Eliza on "In The
Beginning".

And it had to be one of the most amazing parent turnouts for an afternoon concert with about 100 adults in attendance.’  - Andrew Chinn
