stationsofthecross01 350Faith development and religious education are an important part of our teaching and daily living at Sacred Heart. The content for our school’s religious education program is based on the text “To Know, Worship and Love":

To Know, Worship and Love is a new Religious Education Project based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Scriptures and liturgy. It has been developed as a synthesis of methods derived from 50 years of Religious Education experience, and is in line with The General Directory of Catechesis, 1997. To Know, Worship and Love has the Imprimatur of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, Australia.
The series of 13 texts for school students, from Kindergarten/Prep through to Year 12, has received an official “recognitio” from the Congregation for the Clergy in the Vatican. This means it can be used anywhere in the world, while respecting the authority of the local bishop as to whether it is mandated as a course or simply recommended as a resource.

As a whole school, we celebrate key events on the church calendar, such as Ash Wednesday, Easter, Pentecost and Advent. Prayer forms a part of each day and our students learn the formal prayers of the Catholic tradition, learn to pray informally and also participate in meditation. We participate regularly in whole school and junior, middle and senior school Masses with the parish.

Throughout the year, each class attends a Thursday morning Mass when the students have the opportunity to sit among the parishioners. Once a term, we also celebrate a year level family Mass on a Saturday night at 6pm. The school choir performs at each of the year level family Masses.
